Citadel Finecast

Games Workshop, Citadel Finecast - Gandalf the White
Citadel miniatures is the company that initially produced citadel labelled figures, they now manufacture and distribute various brands, including warhammer, and Lord of the rings. Their latest innovative product is finecast. Finecast miniatures are resin based and have a level of detail that was un-acheivable with citadel’s previous plastic miniatures.
Finecast miniatures have a number of benefits. They are lighter than metal miniatures, because of this they are quite durable and unlikely to break when dropped. Conversely however, should you accidentally step on one when you drop it, then it is more likely to break, where a metal miniature would more likely deform.
Another added benefit of the lightness is that you no longer need to peg appendanges like arms and wings to the main body of the figure. They can just be glued making construction much easier. Although they still suffer from similar moulding marks as plastic and metal miniatures, they are easier to cut than both. Since the resin is harder than plastic it responds well to careful use of a sharp knife rather than digging in like plastic does due to pressing just slightly too hard. That’s hard to explain, but plastic figures seem to resist the initial force you place on them with a sculpting knife, and then give suddenly to the pressure meaning you have to ease off quickly or you end up going through more plastic than you wanted.
The main feature can easily be seen however from the pictures, the level of detail. This is their main selling point, take a look for yourselves…
