Reeves Acrylic Colour Paint Set

Reeves Acrylic Colour Paints x18 (including free brush), from Tesco and now Play.com

Now, I may be setting myself up for a major fail, however in these penny pinching times, the temptation of a bargain is always to hard to resist.

Whilst perusing my local Tesco store I saw this set of 18 acrylic paints for just £4.50! Now I’m not claiming that they are going to be a replacement for Citadel or Vallejo paints, but at that price who can blame me for trying? That’s 18 paints for the price of about two (or three if you shop around) citadel paints!

Alright the pots are not even close to the size of the citadel/vallejo ones, but if you are looking for getting a good range of colours on the cheap, then they beat the pants off the others as the initial outlay on 18 different colours of the aforementioned would cost you £36-42+VAT. Question is how many of those 18 would you use daily?

Oh and they throw in a nylon acrylic painting brush, which might be good for drybrushing at best or one to add to your child’s paintbrush collection.

As long as I use a decent quality undercoat I think these will coat and cure just fine.

Be interesting to see if the colours are as vibrant as other products. I’ll let you know if I have any success with them.

Worth a try?

Update: They are also available online from play.com for a little more than your local Tesco store though; currently £5.99 with free delivery.

My favourite miniature figure painting books (cont.)

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

My other favourite book is the Foundry Miniatures Painting and Modelling Guide.

This is a hardback book, and the modelling pictures are simply fantastic. There’s a lot of good tips on painting, and some really useful descriptions of how to make best use of colour on your models. This is a book you will keep coming back to, even just to marvel at the creations inside.

My favourite miniature figure painting books

There are quite a lot of books on how to paint miniatures or lead figures. Quite a few deal with other genres such as modern warfare, but can have some useful tips in them.

How to paint citadel miniatures book cover

There are a couple of books that in my mind stand out from the “crowd”. I can highly recommend How to Paint Citadel Miniatures which although tailored to the citadel range of paints and painting system, really does explain in detail the techniques involved. It is very well illustrated, anyone coming away from this book should have gained some good insights into how to paint and upon seeing the artwork be highly motivated in producing their own wonderful creations.

My other favourite book coming next… Yep, only another one…

Dry Brushing Video (the fast way)

Here’s a HD capable video of the drybrushing technique. The person in this vid is hammering on the model, I tend to take things a little slower than this, but then he is doing the whole model!
