Apple Mac Mini (Things I want)

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Well totally off topic, but I can’t help it if I like computers as well as miniatures…

Anyway, whilst all the furore over the new iPhone is going on, Apple have sneaked out a brand spanking new Mac mini !

What’s nice about the new one is that it has the same faster embedded nvidia 320M graphics as the Macbook Pro 13″. It also now sports a unibody enclosure, the power supply is integrated into the box, and the memory is easily upgradeable (up to 8GB) through a compartment in the bottom.

Best of all though is the HDMI connector. This baby will hook straight up to your HD Ready TV. Would make a lovely Freeview HD recorder box (with appropriate USB HD freeview tuner dongle).

The base model will do just fine for starters, and you can always buy the RAM upgrade from someone other than Apple at a later date, and I have larger drive than the one included in the base model sitting unused in a USB enclosure.

OpenID WordPress Plugins

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Tried to add OpenID support to my site. Didn’t have much success with the popular “openid” plugin, which should have given me both OpenID comments and OpenID authentication through my own URL. It just wouldn’t work, and is probably due to Security permissions at my host provider.

The MyOpenID plugin however worked just fine, and now delegates authentication across to myopenid where I have my OpenID account. Now whenever I post an OpenID authenticated comment, I can a URL back to my homepage, Lovely!

It’s a shame that the “openid” plugin didn’t work, because I now have to try to using another mechanism for allowing OpenID authenticated comments (MyOpenID just does the delegate stuff). Perhaps the plugin will work for the comments (client), or maybe there’s another plugin that will do OpenID authenticated comments.

Experimentation for another time me-thinks…

New web page layout

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Finished tweaking my new layout and have applied it to the website.

I think the new layout helps the postings stand-out better.

Probably got more involved in CSS than I wanted too, but a good learning experience none-the-less.

Being fairly new to this blogging lark, I needed to understand about the art of using trackbacks or pingbacks. There is a very good site on how to do this, and more at:

Thanks to Teli, I now know what I am doing…
