Zombies! Probably the most popular of all undead.
Brainless, fragile yet relentless creatures of the night. They have a unquenchable desire to consume brain matter, to make their victims another member of their undead horde. Apt to losing a limb (or two) on their way to beat your brains out with their bare hands. They will get you, eventually.
Their appeal lies in our morbid fascination with our own mortality. The zombie is our nightmare of the reality of life after death, trapped in a body that is slowly, irrevocably returning back to the mother earth from which it sprung. Ironic that the zombie often arises from that very soil in the graveyards that we so conveniently place next to our homes, not knowing of the danger that lies within.
Zombies quite often act as fodder in today’s RPG, but they are so much more than that. Treat them within your gaming with the respect they deserve, make them part of a scenario where the player characters are having to complete a quest whilst the hordes slowly home in on them. Give them them a chance to taste your player characters flesh…
